Problem printing from Messenger

I wonder if anybody has experienced this problem before.

I've just purchased a new HP CP1515n laserjet and printing is fine 
from most apps.

However I seem to be unable to get a printout from Messenger (I'm 
using 4.12 despite having later versions).

The printer is set up to use the new PS3 driver via RComp's Network 
Printer Drivers.

When I click the print button no error is reported. Then looking in 
the print queue, the document seems to sit there for quite a while 
(10-20 seconds) before the percentage printing indicator begins to 
increase from 0%

The printer data light begins to flash so something is obviously sent 
to the printer but nothing prints out and the printer returns to the 
Ready state. The queue is then cleared without an error either.

Can anybody suggest where I am going wrong, please?
