Ntl change over to Virgin Media (Gmail)

A cautionary tale...if your change over is soon.

The Ntl change over to Virgin Media Mail (Gmail by Google) for Cambridge area
took place this week on Tuesday, initially all was well, as I received the
notice E-mail in the normal way with two other 'older (seen) mail items'
re-delivered plus mailing lists and could send emails etc as normal on
rest of Tuesday.

According to their information no changes would be neccessary straight away
but they fib! You keep your existing E-mail address but one really has to
make changes to MessPro 6.00 (or any other Email program) virtually
straight away to keep it working otherwise you'll find you can't receive or
send anything or even get on the Web the next day!

So be forewarned!....

Incoming Mail Pop3, becomes Port 995
Outgoing Mail SMTP becomes secure SSL, Port 465

Its easy to change MessPro's Port numbers to above via NetFetch's
>Choices> Emailboxes> hilight Ntl> go Edit> alter Port to 995 > click change
to save.

Netfetch Choices again > account> SMTP mail send Server> click on Security
tab > opens User/Password window enter here your full Ntl Email address,
and original setup Ntl Password, click OK to save (While this Window says
"Most Servers do not need these settings filled in" Secure SSL does.

They provide an application program on Virgin's site for Windows PC users
to make the neccessary 'Send and Receive Port numbers changes' one can
Download a automated setup tool at <virginmedia.com/cst> so you will be OK
with your Outlook Express computer

Virgin will make additional VirginMedia address available in due course
but they definitely are doing everything they can to try and make people use
crappy Webmail...
