tell me about Talktalk

     [please ignore this if you've already seen my posting in 
     Archive-online or c.s.a.misc]

i've been touted by Talktalk.  they blitz-knocked on doors in this
area, offering a package of much faster broadband plus line rental
plus free anytime calls and an international package, for less cash
than i presently pay for my line and calls (from BT) and broadband
(from UK Online).

i'm near the end of the cooling-off period before the switch happens.

what experience have people had with Talktalk?  is the service
reliable?  what's its technical helpdesk like?  am i going to need it?  
any problems about SMTP or using Hermes and MPro?

(we don't need to talk about newsgroups.  i know Talktalk does not do 
newsgroups, but nor did UK Online; i already use the free server 
Eternal September apka Motzarella.)

irrelevant, but i must say i think the name Talktalk a bit silly and
i'm suspicious that the Carphone Warehouse empire has grown too fast.

i'm surprised that i haven't yet been besieged by my present suppliers 
wanting to offer better deals, as happened when i changed electricity
suppliersxxxx accountants a few years ago.

would appreciate hearing the Talktalk tales of others before i am
committed.
