Sorry about the first sentence but you knew what I meant.

Unfortunately I have no control over incoming messages! On outgoing 
messages I make sure that a URL is delimited by a space at each end.

It is quite common for people to put URLs in brackets, but brackets 
are rarely used inside URLs. It should be fairly easy to exclude a 
trailing ")" on a URL. On the extremely rare occasion that the bracket 
terminates an argument I'm happy to type it in or use copy and paste.
