I made that specific feature request - number 125 - in March 2008, for
precisely this reason.

I worked out when, I thought, I most often did this inadvertent drag, which
for me was:

I've a tendency when I open a subsidiary display eg the Tools -> Filters one
over the top of the main groups display, to position the mouse pointer on
the bottom rh corner of the subsidiary display and try to drag it bigger &
wider. Although I know I do wait until I see the pointer change to a "<->",
I think I sometimes move the mouse a bit before starting the drag, which
turns off the dragging-to-change-size logic. MP then thinks I'm dragging
whichever group folder is positioned under the bottom rh corner of the
subsidiary display.

Possibly another option (apart from 'locking' the display hierarchy) might
be to add 'maximise' buttons to the subsidiary displays, which would give
one an easy way to make them substantially bigger. But that wouldn't
prevent accidental drags if one only wanted displays to be slightly bigger.

Under Windows XP, the file:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings
  \Application Data\intellegit\gemini\Groups\Index

contains a list of all the names and lots of status flags etc for all the
defined Groups. It doesn't readily show the hierarchy of Groups though (I
think each entry contains a pointer to that Group's parent). If you make a
copy of the file (so as not to damage the live file inadvertently) you can
at least find a line that will tell you that a group you think should exist
does still exist.
