notify and chime

Re: notify and chime (Tony Moore)

The dialogue "Edit group settings > General" has tickboxes for
"Notify new arrivals" and "Chime for new arrivals".

These settings must be stored in a file somewhere. If so, where?

I made four new groups (named zz-n0c0, zz-n0c1, zz-n1c0, zz-n1c1) to
give all four possible combinations of these settings, and then
examined the file !Newsdir.MsgServe.Groups. The new groups duly
appeared in that file, but none of the many parameters reflect their
"notify new arrivals" or "chime" settings.

So where are these settings stored?

I ask because I don't get notifications or chimes at all, whereas the
other local user on MPro here DOES.

I'm wondering if this is connected to my ongoing plague of delays in
debatching incoming emails. (Delays are completely unacceptable now:
sometimes 15 minutes while I go for a cup of tea, but more usually I
do Alt-break after each debatch and then reload MPro.) Two things
raise my suspicion about Notify:
-- The other local user does not get these delays.
-- The delay always occurs at the END of a debatch, which is the
point where, I presume, notify would be triggered.
