I've just switched on my Mac from Safari to Firefox.  Then a web link on
the Mac Messenger program indeed opened the page in Firefox.

Then I set the default back to Safari and the same link opened the
program in Safari.

I used the Default Apps facility in System Preferences using OSX 10.9.2
(Mavericks).

Further any problems on the Mac version of Messenger should go to the
Gemini mailing list on <gemini-users+subscribe@...> as Mark
Sawle keeps an occasional eye on that whereas he does not do anything
for this mailing list for the RISC OS Messenger Pro.
