Could anyone help me display accented characters in Messenger Pro 7.08
(RISC OS 5.23)?
If I display an email in DejaVuSans (outline font), accented
characters appear as question marks in black diamonds. I also tried
Fanwood font, and some older fonts (the latter don't display anything
at all, not even the diamond).
However, if I switch the display to "bitmap font", the same accented
characters show correctly in System font.
The accented characters are produced from an HTML-only email which is
being converted by Messenger Pro to display as plain text. When the
HTML is viewed in Netsurf it is fine. The accented characters are
specified in the raw email using HTML character entities such as
é . The raw email is encoded as content-type text/html;
charset=ISO-8859-1 .
I thought that DejaVuSans was a modern Unicode font, and that
Messenger Pro could display Unicode now, so would have expected the
accented characters to display in outline font mode.
Its also a bit embarrassing when I reply to an affected message, as
the accented characters in the quoted text just become plain old
question marks.
Thanks and regards
Ewen
