Solved part (1) of my post of Feb 13. In fact, the solution came
(after a further try and further frustration) by checking this list
from 2010 Nov, when someone called Nagel asked the very same Q.
As I discovered in 2010 and then forgot, a group which has been given
a COLOUR in the list of groups cannot be archived; you have to remove
the colour first. Change the colour back to black, then tick the
Archive box (which can be done in the same dialogue), then click Save.
Then all is happy.
Methinks this could be called a bug in MPro. In 2010 it was MPro
version 5.13; still same behaviour now in 7.08.
Problem (2) remains a mystery: why does a choice of "Display Unread"
refuse to be changed back to "Display All"?
