Authentication Failed -creatin new email address

It's ages since I added a new email address.
in Chioces it looks the same format as others - also when checking
Netfetch Email boxes in the Choices Hermes accounts menu there.
Not sure where else to look locally (Virtual Acorn)
In "Emails" my Zen account Customer Portal and Control Panel.
I don't recall any problem addin an address previously
