Thanks Mark. Just for clarity, I don't know that the index was corrupt for
sure. I initiated the repair myself, having glimpsed some identical
messages which became one when opened (as shown by the group message
count). Given that it was isolated to one group I suspect it may actually
have been an issue for the sender. Would MPro have dealt with identical
message IDs?

On the subject of updates, looking at the Mac newsgroups it seems that
Messenger Pro may be the last maintained usenet client available for Macs.
