One way round the question of top- or bottom-posting is simply
DON'T QUOTE.

Why DO people willynilly quote the whole of my previous message back
at me?! I read it already! In the days of paper letters, did we
always put a copy of the previous correspondence into the envelope
with our reply?

I think many people have no idea that it is possible to switch off
quoting altogether.

As a case in point, I was rather aghast at how many Archive members --
who I thought would know better -- replied to my recent circular about
updating email addresses by quoting the WHOLE of the circular back at
me and adding words to the effect "Yes I received it".

A feature I've always liked in MPro (and don't think I've seen in any
other clients) is that it lets you highlight a few words in the
original message, then click Reply, and only those words are quoted.

Hmm, it'd be nice if this feature also worked in the situation where
quoting is switched OFF -- I'll suggest that to Andrew.
