Oh, yes, yes, yes, please DO upload them rather than attach to email.  
I find it one of the banes of my existence when people email me (or my 
wife) excessively large pictures.

If you use Picasa on a PC or Mac (unfortunately not on RiscOS), it's 
not only a slick way of organizing and captioning your pictures, and 
doing straightforward edits such as cropping and rotating and 
lightening, and also even recognizing faces in them, and searching, it 
also provides you with free webspace and easy upload of scaled-down 
versions to share with people (or, in my case, to export to RiscOS at 
the size I actually need).
