I don't know. It seems that reading messages and stripping attachments
can be completely separate activities, unless you open the messages
first (which I assume you are not doing).
I've noticed another illogical marking. I have some folders marked all
read (0/nnn) but with an asterisk for new messages. I can hardly read
a message without first having noticed that it exists!
