Maximum of 77 files per directory is a very distant memory. No reason 
to suspect up to date, well maintained and widely used applications to 
have a problem there. And in many years of continuous use here, I have 
never before seen this issue of Hermes/MsgServe/MPro failing to finish 
debatching incoming emails.

I don't think it concerns MPro groups (i.e. how MPro displays 
MsgServe.Spool); it's earlier in the process, namely the automatic 
sending on and then deletion of messages received by Hermes in

      !NetFetch.Apps.!Hermes.MailDir.mailin.local.<account>

And this essential step is not described in any documentation that I 
have seen.
