I've had this occur occasionally; possibly maybe 3 times in the years I've
been using MPro, In all cases it was because of a broken email in the debtach
dir'.
Because it's so rare I'm not 100% sure of the details, but IIRC the transport
fell over some oddity in an incoming email & aborted leaving a broken Data
file behind. So when Mpro tried to debatch the file it choked.
I also have a vague recollection of a thread in this list mentioning that
Mpro has on occasion 'forgotten' where the transport drops the debatch file,
so it migth be worth reminding it.
As for not clearing out MPro Backups, this is something that puzzles me. I
have 7 users of which 2 automatically clear out old backup files, but the
others don't. I regularly trim the files, but have never been able to fathom
why it's done for some users & not others.
