You'd need to be careful. Aliases must be unique for a user; names
don't have to be. The alias is supposed to be a short form. I'm not
sure if spaces are allowed but I've always kept aliases to a single
word. The help manual doesn't rule it out though.

Yes, if you have to modify an existing list. You could use a
sequential code for the alias, e.g. dl001, dl002, etc.
