Coming late to this thread, though I have exactly the same trouble as
Harriet. In MPro you can allocate different sounds to different email
addresses so that a sound is played for an arrival from such a person.
Just as with Harriet these sounds play perfectly, but the all-purpose
Chime comes out as a muted clunk.

For completeness, SoundCon shows here reports exactly the same as Harriet
reports in her original message, and I'm using MPro 8.40 and RISC OS 5.27,
RComp version (12-May-20)

The email <http://www.intellegit.com/support/viewmessage.php?list=messenge
r-l&id=20914> was sent by me; I had one reply, which I've now lost, which
suggested modifying the Chime file in a way that I couldn't understand.

I'd quite like to have my chime back again if someone can tell me how, but
for the moment I've become accustomed to the clunk.

Best wishes,

Peter.
