Thanks for those suggestions, but ...

The first method, stashing outgoing messages somewhere else then moving 
them back when ready to send them, seems rather drastic, might cause 
problems, and anyway wouldn't prevent accidental fetches.

For most people an accidental fetch would be harmless, but after 
occasional instances of fetch corruption (and even though Alan did find 
the cause of those and deal with it) I like to keep an eye on the fetching 
process so I don't want it starting unexpectedly.

The second method, redefining the mail transfer icon's action to something 
else or nothing, seems good in principle, but I would be wary of tampering 
with a template file and anyway I can't find any inside MPro's application 
directory.
